[4/24/2020] The Final Seventh-Generation 911 SOLD

What a glorious end, if you will, for the naturally aspirated Seventh-generation 911 as Porsche has auctioned off what could be one of the last non-turbocharged variant ever made. The Speedster was the last 911 to roll off the production line as part of the wildly successful generation known internally as “991,” which Porsche started in 2011 and ended on Dec. 20, 2019. The car is offered at no reserve.

On April 22nd Porsche had announced that the 911, the 991-series speedster would head to the auction block in effort to help raise money for the United Way Worldwide’s COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund.

Porsche is pairing the 911 Speedster with parting gifts that includes a 911 Speedster Heritage Design Chronograph, and an opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Porsche AG Weissach development headquarters. Addition to this one of a life time event, a personal tour that includes “experiencing the test track” with Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser and Andreas Preuninger, heads of the 911 and GT model lines, respectively.

The final 991 Speedster is one of 1,948 examples that Porsche made to honor 70 years of Porsche sports cars. It packs a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six making 502 horsepower accompanied by a six-speed manual gearbox.

This Seventh-generation had seen several Porsche milestones. The 50th anniversary of the 911 came in 2013, followed by the 50th anniversary of the 911 R in 2017. The one-millionth 911 sold was a 991-series car, and Porsche proper celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2017, just in time for the 911 GT2 RS to arrive and become the most-powerful road-going 911 of all time.

That’s quite a legacy for the 992-series to live up to. The current Carrera as thus far not been a disappointment, and we’re just a few short months away from finally seeing the new 911 Turbo. As for what’s coming beyond that, it should be quite a ride for fans of the iconic rear-engined supercar.

“We are all profoundly affected by the current situation and the immediate impact it’s having on those most at risk in our communities,” said Porsche Cars North America CEO Klaus Zellmer in a statement. “United Way continues to step up to the plate and their response to this crisis has been quite impressive," he added. "So we are proud to do our part. I also appreciate the swift support of RM Sotheby’s to make this possible and I am hopeful that the sale of a very special Porsche will help in a small way.”
